A Man of Character

There once was a young man living in Canada by way of Scotland. Years later, the Vietnam War started, and people were fleeing to Canada to escape the draft. So what did this man do? He left Canada, went to the U.S., and volunteered to join the Marines. He spent two tours in Vietnam.

All you need to know about this man's character, about what type of person he really is, can be summed up in that paragraph. He did what needed to be done, when he had no reason or obligation to do so. And he is, and will always be, my hero.

 Happy Birthday Daddy.

Friday Faves!

Happy Friday all, and welcome to the first installment of my Faves From Around the Interwebs...basically, the funniest and best stuff I came across this week while mindlessly web-surfing, Pinteresting, and Facebooking. It's a lot more productive than it sounds. :)

Starting with the best. This just made my heart smile today.

Sadly, so me.

I'm calling myself "the doctor". LOL

Who pie-charted my life?

Kenyatta & Ty | Minot Wedding Photographer

Like a lot of couples, Kenyatta and Ty met at a place where we spend so much of our time - at work. And work to get her Ty did. Having recently gotten out of a relationship, she was not looking for The One...but Ty knew Kenyatta was just that for him, and was determined to get her. After asking three times, she finally agreed to go out with him. And after three years of dating, they will marry this summer. I would say three is a pretty lucky number for these two...and sometimes when fate, a little bit of luck, and a lot of persistence combine, you wind up living your dream.

I feel very lucky to get the chance to work with such a couple as fun-loving as Kenyatta and Ty. Thank you for choosing me to share in the beginning of your dreams.

*Please feel free to tag yourself & others, or use the images on your Facebook page but please do not alter, crop or remove our logo. Thanks!*

Oh, Kenyatta. Rawr.

Stephanie + Tony | Minot Wedding Photographer

Stephanie and Tony met in the cafeteria line at the Georgia college they both attended. They took notice of each other, and the rest as they say, is history. They have been together ever since, through Tony joining the Air Force, going through Basic Training and then being stationed in Japan for two years...through Stephanie graduating college and moving to be with the love of her life at his next military assignment - Minot, North Dakota.

To say this is the ultimate act of love is an understatement. Stephanie came here from Georgia just in time for winter to arrive, bringing with it cold, snow, and icy roads few people from outside of this state could ever comprehend...let alone willingly move to.

Stephanie & Tony got married on one of these very snowy, cold days in December. Since they are both so far from home and family it was just the two of them that day, but you could feel the love of their families surrounding them...through good luck charms and phone calls from as far away as England.

Tony & Stephanie, I am honored that you chose me to be part of your day and to *literally* witness the beginning of your life together. Thank you.

Megan + Shane | Minot Wedding Photographer

I used to think Spring, Summer, and Fall were the best time of year to shoot engagement sessions...basically, anything but the middle of winter here in North Dakota.

That was until I had the pleasure of shooting a December engagement session at the request of Megan & Shane. Now I'm trying to convince more couples to go out in the snow to play while I take their photos. :)

What made it so great, though, was Megan and Shane. They were both truly happy and so positive (even when it started to feel REALLY cold out there), and came with fantastic ideas and an incredible sense of creativity (see Shane's amazing snow heart!).

Megan and Shane, I cannot wait to share in your big day. And if it happens to snow next September 21st, I know someone who can make us a great snow heart. :)
